Hello and Happy New Year! 2019 was a full year from all points of view, including books and blogging. This January I hopped on the Top Tuesday bandwagon to share my (almost) bookish discoveries from 2019. Here we go!
§ My reading habits – I realized I tend to have alternating periods with a lot of reading (especially on relaxing holidays and during long flights) and periods (sometimes even months) when I might not read anything at all. I used to think that I am a constant reader and I felt guilty when I didn’t … but it’s time to accept that it’s all about ups and downs, like anything else in life.

§ Hogarth Shakespeare project – well-known contemporary authors write retellings of Shakespeare’s stories – how awesome is that?! Each author chose a famous story by Shakespeare and wrote a book with that specific theme. Of the 7 books, I am most excited about Margaret Atwood’s Hag-Seed, based on “The Tempest”.

§ Memoirs – until this year I’ve been hesitant to read memoirs, as I had the (very) wrong impression that fiction stories are more exciting that real stories … Fortunately, the memoirs I read in 2019 completely changed my belief! In 2019 I read Becoming, When Breath Becomes Air, and Educated, and I enjoyed them so much!

§ Going to the theatre – during the second half of 2019 I started to plan a monthly going to the theatre – and it worked out very well! I saw classical plays and modern plays, and for the ones I liked the most I wrote short reviews on the blog – click here to check them out. Looking forward to continue this endeavour in 2020!

What were your bookish discoveries in 2019? Wish you a successful & bookish 2020!
‘Till next time … happy reading!

I’m glad you like it! I also need to think a bit about 2020 – it’s useful to have some guiding lights along the way. Happy New Year!

Sounds like a great year! I totally have those alternating reading periods too. Last year one month I read 10 books and another I read only 1 graphic novel. I think it’s all totally fine as long as at the end of the year you’ve found some new favorites 🤷♀️ I disovered I can actually enjoy non-fiction if it’s a topic I’m interested in (mind=blown haha). I used to think all non-fiction was boring. Here’s to a great 2020!

Yes, non-fiction covers so many topics! I prefer reading stories of other people, I’m not so much into self-development & business books – unless I’m really into the topic! Have a great 2020!

The Shakespeare Project sounds interesting. I love Jo Nesboe, but haven’t read Macbeth. Hope you enjoy all the books in the project!

Thank you! I haven’t read any of the Hogarth Shakespeare books yet, but I’m really eager to read them! I have some books waiting for me on the shelf, I’ll start the collection a bit later 🙂
