Read out of your bubble – 5 exciting book releases by the end of 2023

2023 might be half gone, but there’s another half full of bookish surprises yet to come! Below are 5 books that I’m excited to read, once they’re published – enjoy!

§ Miss Kim Knows and Other Stories by Cho Nam-Joo

“Eight women. Eight stories. One reality.”

The book compiles the short fictional biographies of 8 Korean women, aged 10 to 80. Each story contains a “microcosm of contemporary Korea”, presenting the challenges faced by women in the Korean culture.

The author is known for the previous book – Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 – haven’t read it, but I heard good things about it.

Publishing date: UK – 08/2023

§ Juja by Nino Haratischvili

Paris, 1953 – Jeanne jumps in front of a train, leaving behind writings about unspoken truths of women’s lives and struggles; her book triggers copycat suicides.

2004 – Two women from Amsterdam and Sydney rediscover Jeanne’s book and try to find out her story.

Written in 2010 by Georgian-born German writer Nino Haratischvili, only in 2023 the book will be translated to English.

Publishing date: UK – 08/2023

§ Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Before We Say Goodbye by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

Yay, there will be a fourth book of the series Before the Coffee Gets Cold! Before We Say Goodbye takes us back to Funiculi Funicula café, where visitors can travel in time. Each of the previous three collections of short stories was super touching and heartwarming, so I expect the same from Before We Say Goodbye 🙂

Publishing date: UK – 09/2023; USA – 11/2023

§ The Fraud by Zadie Smith

“Truth and fiction. Jamaica and Britain. Who deserves to tell their story?”

The Fraud seems a super complex book based on a real story, involving a Scottish housekeeper and cousin of a famous novelist, a person who grew up enslaved in Jamaica, and a trial where the accused is from Australia … quite intriguing, isn’t it?

I read Swing Time by the same author (my review) – I was a bit disappointed, but I’d love to give Zadie Smith a second chance 🙂

Publishing date: UK – 09/2023

§ The Wildest Sun by Asha Lemmie

Delphine, an aspiring writer from Paris, embarks on a journey to find her father. As she discovers he is a super famous writer, her quest becomes even more challenging, yearning for his approval, both a daughter and a writer. The journey takes Delphine to Paris and New York, Havana and Key West – quite a lot of travelling ❤

I know Asha Lemmie also published Fifty Words for Rain, a book I read good reviews about.

Publishing date: USA – 12/2023

  1. Thanks for the update… I haven’t heard about these books and a few certainly piqued my interest, although I am currently struggling with finishing the my present TBR list. None of them are from my routine theme pool so they certainly sound fascinating
