Hello and welcome to my April 2020 reading status! I hope you are all well in this tumultuous times and that you stay safe, preferably at home as much as possible.
This is a WWW Wednesday post, hosted by Sam@Taking on a World of Words about the past, current and future reads.
1| What are you currently reading?
I begin with a side note: this weekend I’m participating in my first readathon (reading marathon), from 16th until 19th of April – The Reading Rush. It overlaps with the Orthodox Easter celebration, so I think it’s a good opportunity to take advantage of the quiet times and read as much as possible 🙂
In the light of this readathon, I will be continuing to read “The Little Friend” by Donna Tartt – it’s a book I really want to read and it fulfills one of the criteria for the readathon (it has something that resembles a house on the cover).
This is the third book I read by Donna Tartt, after reading “The Goldfinch” and “The Secret History”.
2| What did you recently finish reading?
For the first time in a long while I managed to finish 2 books in a month ❤
First I finished “The Labyrinth of the Spirits” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, the last installment of “The Cemetery of Forgotten Books” series. My high expectations were certainly fulfilled – once more, Zafón designed a page-turning journey that kept me captivated from beginning to end – hats off!
The second book finished is “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi, a historical fiction novel. It follows the stories of descendants of an Asante women from Ghana. I learnt a lot from this book, as my previous exposure to African-related history was very limited. I enjoyed a lot reading it, it is a very moving journey.
3| What do you think you’ll read next?
Depending on how much I read during the readathon, I have one more book at hand that fulfills another criterion: “a book that will make you smile”. I’m talking about “Deep” by James Nestor – a book about freediving and our (limited) understanding about the oceans. It makes me smile because it reminds me of the recent holiday in New Zealand 🙂
What books make you smile during this period? If you are also participating in The Reading Rush readathon, please let me know!
‘Till next time … happy reading and #stayhome!

I’m also very excited for the Reading Rush, I imagine (at least) 3 days of peaceful reading ❤ Good luck with your homework, I hope you will find the balance to advance with them and also read as much as possible!

I hope you enjoy The Little Friend – it is really a great book and the main character there is like a female Tom Sawyer – it does have that Southern US vibe which I love so much and have nostalgia from childhood. I really like The Little Friend over The Goldfinch even. I cannot wait to read your thoughts on it.

I am enjoying it so far, especially the second half of the book where it’s getting more interesting and action-oriented! I’ll be back with a review for sure 🙂 Looking forward to sharing impressions after I get the full picture!
