As I enjoy fiction stories and complex plots, I haven’t been much interested in biographies. But when my favourite youtuber, Estée Lalonde, published a book about her life, I knew her book was going to be the first biography that sparked interest in my reading soul.

In a nutshell

In Bloom – Navigating life and style, Estée presents her life from childhood to the present moment (she is now 26). Having moved from Canada to the UK when she was only 19, Estée blossomed and she is now a freelancer and Youtube star. I think the name of the book explains nicely her development path:

“For me, the word bloom encapsulates the idea that anything is possible when you put your mind to it. It’s a word that hints at becoming who you are meant to be.” (Estée Lalonde)

Coffee table book

Let’s get this straight: Bloom is not a difficult book, but one you can read during a lazy Sunday afternoon while sipping from a cup of tea. It contains many beautiful pictures that support the written stories and contribute to the feeling of going through a personal photo album.

Personal stories

If you follow her Youtube channel, you will discover other sides of Estée compared to what you see on the screen. She opened up a lot and shared many personal stories, also funny ones, that I’m sure you can relate to. While reading the book I could imagine Estee actually talking to her readers – her written style captures the exact way she is speaking in her videos 🙂

What inspiration I got from the book

Estée does not only share her story, but she also gives readers small lessons and tips she’s learnt over the years. As a short follow-up, reading Bloom also inspired me to add some new things on my TODO list:

  • travel to Edinburgh to the cafe where J.K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book (The Elephant House)
  • travel to Skagen (Denmark) to the Grenen beach, where the Nordic Sea and the Baltic Sea meet but do not mix because of different saline content and water densities
  • take more care of my home (aesthetically speaking – decorations, colours, etc.)
  • research about crystals and their healing powers

Have you read any biographies? What have they inspired you to do or to change to yourself?

‘Till next time … happy reading!

Georgiana

PS: And one day Estée truly brightened my day by replying to the book review post on Facebook ❤ (while I know that most probably it was not her, answering in person … still!)
